Samsung Galaxy S2 vs Apple iPhone 4s

The iPhone 4 and Samsung Galaxy S2 are the two most popular smartphones in the year 2011. TheSamsung Galaxy S2 won the best smartphone award for 2011 and beat out Apple’s iPhone 4. But now theSamsung Galaxy S2 has a new rival, Apple’s new iPhone 4S. So how will each phone test? We put them head to head to see.

Design

The Samsung Galaxy S2 boasts an impressive 4.3 inch display, its thin at only 8.49mm and weighs only 116g. But the downside of the device is its low weight because most of Samsung’s high end devices use plastic coverings which may sound cheap and feel cheap, but if you do intend to buy a case it will feel fairly more intact unlike a plastic feeling.
The iPhone 4S, on the other hand is designed exactly like its predecessor, its screen is smaller than the Samsung Galaxy S2 at 3.5 inches and it’s also not as thin.

If you’re a small person like me, you’d want to go for the iPhone 4S because it fits into the hand better than the Samsung Galaxy S2, but if you’re looking for a modern, luxurious designed device go with the Samsung Galaxy S2 as its black design with a big screen makes it one of the best looking phone on the current market.
Display
As we already mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy S2 has a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED plus screen with a mere 800 x 480 resolution. It sacrifices image quality and pixels per inch to suffice the big screen, while keeping the price low. The iPhone 4S’s screen is of a much higher quality and resolution. It has a resolution of 960 x 640, though despite the Galaxy S2’s lower quality screen it still looks surprisingly great, the colors come out at you and it’s very stunning. Despite this, the iPhone 4S’s screen is even more immaculate, as it’s brighter and look good in sunlight.
So with the display, it depends what you want. A bigger screen or smaller screen, sure the Samsung Galaxy S2’s screen stats look better on paper but in reality both screens are equally similar.
Processor
The Samsung Galaxy S2 uses a 1.2Ghz dual-core A9 processor, that provides speedy performance and web browsing speed as comparisons have shown that on the same wireless network, the Samsung Galaxy S2 loads substantially quicker than the iPhone 4S.
The iPhone 4S has a 1Ghz dual core A9 processor, similar to the Samsung Galaxy S2, but a great improvement over the iPhone 4, although it has a lower clock speed it shows off its great graphics capabilities, but is still second best to the Samsung Galaxy S2.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 is the faster device, simple as that.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has a 8 mega-pixel camera with a LED light and autofocus, and it takes photos at a resolution of 3264 x 2448, while also capturing video at 1080p at 30 frames per second. Apple have greatly improved the camera on their iPhone 4S compared to the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 only had a 5 mega-pixel camera but as we all know mega-pixels is just a number and is overused now in marketing techniques as it tricks people into believing the higher the number the better. The iPhone 4S has a strikingly similar camera to the Samsung Galaxy S2, taking photos at a same resolution as the Galaxy S2 and also has the same video features. What stands out on the iPhone 4S though, is the new CMOS Sensor, which makes the camera take pictures faster.
But if you use Skype or any other video call applications, the Samsung Galaxy S2 beats out the iPhone 4S, as it has a front facing 2 mega-pixel camera while the iPhone 4S has a shocking VGA camera (remember those big bulky screens, 10 years ago? Yes those.)
So I have to say the Camera is a draw as the back facing camera of the two devices are quite similar but the iPhone 4S has an added feature making it better, but it lacks the front facing camera capabilities which the Galaxy S2 has.
Price
This is a hard one to compare as the iPhone 4S has only recently been released, while the Samsung Galaxy S2 has been released for quite a number of months now. Nevertheless, life goes on, the Samsung Galaxy S2 is the cheaper device, by far! It currently cost a good $200 less than the iPhone 4S which depends on where you buy it though.
Verdict
Both smartphones are very similar in specs, but suit different lifestyles and both have their positives and negatives. In my opinion the iPhone 4S is the worse of the two, as it is newer phone but lacks the features which the Galaxy S2 has. The iPhone 4S is also overhyped because of the many loyal Apple users who buy device after device.
